Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

Knowing your own personality traits is useful, but so is knowing those of others. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® or MBTI for short is the most widely used personality tool in the world and offers an approach to identify the individual differences and strengths within your team.

What is MBTI?

  • A model, developed by Katharine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers, which maps individual differences in personality types in a positive way.
  • MBTI gives an insight into your own personality preferences and those of others.
  • MBTI offers a framework to solve issues related to human interaction.
  • MBTI creates a strong foundation for lifelong personal development.

The two steps of MBTI

  • MBTI Step I: you determine your and your team members’ personality type, including personal motivations and interaction within this group. There are 16 personality types in total, based on four dimensions:
    • Extraversion (E) – Introversion (I)
      What energises you?
    • Sensing (S) – Intuition (N)
What kind of information do you pay attention to?
    • Thinking (T) – Feeling (F)
What process do you use to make decisions?
    • Judging (J) – Perceiving (P)
How do you prefer to deal with the world around you?

This first step is useful to help resolve both personal and business issues, for individuals as well as teams.

  • MBTI Step II: uses the fours dimensions of Step I as a starting point, but examines five extra personality traits in-depth. The result? An extremely detailed personality profile and development plan, perfect for action planning and team-building. And this applies to all echelons within an organisation.

With MBTI, …

  • you learn to understand personality differences in an easy, but sophisticated way
  • you emphasise someone’s strengths and give them the tools to use them optimally
  • you use a powerful tool to solve various HR issues
  • you obtain clear reports and questionnaires as supporting tools
  • you map development actions so you can grow
